Meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Stewards Academy in Harlow
I recently had the great pleasure to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on September 16th at Stewards Academy in Harlow. I was one of eight parents of children at the academy selected to meet with the royal couple to talk about our experiences with mental health, what it means for the children, us as parents and for the school team. As a Governor at the school it is an issue that is extremely important as whatever a childs background and circumstances unless their mental health is good it is extremely unlikely that they will be able to take advantage of all the school and society has to offer and not least optimise their academic and social opportunities.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are Patrons of HEADSTOGETHER a charity focused on the mental health of children in both Primary and Secondaryeducation. It is also the lead charity at next years Virgin London Marathon and is working closely with PLACE2BE Making a lifetime of difference to children in schools. One in ten children aged between 5 and 16 years (three in every classroom) has a mental health problem.
Many continue to have these problems into adulthood. Half of those with lifetime mental health problems first experience symptoms by the age of 14. PLACE2BE is the leading children’s mental health charity providing in-school support to improve the emotional wellbeing of pupils, families and school staff, and expert training for professionals working with children.
The royal couple spent several hours at the school, in the classroom at an assembly and it was well covered in the media BBC Look East and several national papers hopefuly bringing this issue into the open.
It certainly provided a very memorable day for the children at the Academy and not least for me. I urge you all to follow the links above as this is an issue that affects as many as 1:3 people

Leavers Evening 2016
Welcoming the 2016 Bancrofts Leavers to the OBA at Bancrofts School with Mary Ireland (Former head) presenting leavers.
An excellent evening with a very good turn out of leavers and their parents hosted by the school and OBA as they take their next career steps - good luck to all. Each leaver was presented with a OBA brooch or tie and welcomed to our association by Julian Blake our President. His talk focused on the network the OBA can offer so remember this is your association so remember to visit our website for details of events and news www.bancroftians.net.

Bancrofts Fundraiser for the Arts
Friday 25th November
The School is now well underway with the planning for the Bancroft’s Fundraiser for the Arts, which will take place on the evening of Friday 25th November 2016. This event will aim to raise money to support future Arts trips for those who would otherwise be unable to attend, as well as showcasing the fantastic talents and efforts of our students in drama, art, music and dance.
Tickets will be available soon, but I am contacting you now to tell you about the auction that the feature on the night. There is currently a catalogue of eclectic prizes, but we are keen to have a few more donations, for which we need your help. Despite being an Arts-event, the prizes do not have to be Arts-related: tickets for West End shows are as appropriate as sports memorabilia.
If you are interested in donating an auction lot, please email me at the address given below. Truly, the Bancroft’s Fundraiser for the Arts will be a special night, highlighting the high calibre of our students in a plethora of fields, but it needs your generosity to make it magical.
