6165: OBFC 50th Anniversary (05/09/2018)
In September 1968 we celebrated the Bancroft RFC (Formerly Old Bancroftians’ Football Club, founded in 1894) move to Buckhurst Way with a week of rugby, formal presentations and much consumption of Greene King AK & IPA. John Hasselgren has written an article for the OBA Newsletter, so I won’t spoil his thunder by copying it here, but I may later in follow up emails. We plan to hold a celebration lunch at Buckhurst Way on Saturday 20th October to honour this anniversary and I hope as many of you as possible can join us to make it a very special occasion. I propose to have an informal buffet lunch, as I have always found the most enjoyable part of these occasions is moving round the groups and catching up with old friends over a beer or two. For those OBs with great stamina, it follows the Annual Dinner at the school on Friday 19th which I also plan to attend There will also be a 1st XV Fixture against May & Baker, Kick off 3 o’clock, so we can discuss the evolution of rugby over the last 50 years and, obviously, how much better it was in the “good old days”. Please save the date in your diaries. Practical details are that the bar will open at 12, finger buffet from 1 o’clock, rugby to watch from 3 o’clock, and who knows what after the game. Lunch cost will be £15 and the logistics of collecting this in advance is too much for me to handle, so if you tell me you are coming along, I trust you to turn up or cough up. Please let me know if you intend attending, preferably ASAP so you don’t forget. Please pass this on to anyone you are in touch with who has been connected with the rugby club in the last 50 years, and may wish to join us. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 20th and, in the meantime, Best wishes and regards to all. Mike Stout mikeandjenystout@virginmedia.com

6149: Ali's Gift- charity in memory of OB Ali Beament (19/02/2018)
In about 9 & 1/2 weeks time OB Tim Benton (2003-2010) is going to be the first ever entrant running the London Marathon on behalf of Ali's Gift, the charity set up in memory of OB Ali Beament. Please see below a brief summary of what the charity is all about: Ali's Gift was created in Ali's memory with two aims, firstly to give small financial rewards to young CF sufferers who have shown a dedication to studying in order to recognise their hard work. Secondly, to award personal ‘gifts’ to individuals who have a passion or goal that they need help in accomplishing. The Charity want to encourage independence and create awesome memories for the sufferers and their families. Sufferers can either apply for a gift directly or a friend, family member, teacher As both Ali and myself were OB's, I was hoping to utilise the OBA to circulate my fundraising efforts to the wider network of OBs that knew myself and Alistair in the hope of raising as much as we can for a great cause. If you would like to read more or get in touch with Tim, please copy and paste the link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tim-benton1

6146: The Senior Play, The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare (25/01/2018)
Dear old Bancroftian, The Senior Play, The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare, will be performed by our talented U4th, 5th and 6th Form actors in the Great Hall at 7pm on Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd February. King Leontes of Sicilia is seized by a sudden conviction that his pregnant wife Hermione is having an affair with his oldest friend King Polixenes of Bohemia. His refusal to listen to reason leads to the loss of his wife, son and new-born daughter, and the Oracle predicts that he will remain without an heir “if that which is lost be not found.” To book tickets, please contact Kay Kennedy at the School Office. kay.kennedy@bancrofts.org or tel 020 8505 4821. Tickets can be reserved in advance and collected and paid for on the night. Adults’ tickets cost £5 (Cheques payable to Bancroft’s School.) Yours faithfully, Miss H Gartland (Director) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Old Bancroftian Ticket Request.
